The Motor City Blight Busters in partnership with AACCOS and the Detroit Public
Schools is kicking off its student recruitment drive. Blight Busters is looking
for all youth ages 16 to 20 who are not currently enrolled in school and interested
in obtaining their GED and a marketable trade. Skill areas currently offered
in the program are:
Medical Technology/GED. This program teaches students about the medical technology
field with an emphasis in home health care.
Building Trades/GED, This program teaches students about basic carpentry and
the use of power tools, along with other aspects of the building industry.
Culinary Arts/GED, This program teaches students about cooking and food preparation
along with food handling. This course prepares students to work in the restaurant
and catering industry.
Our new program this year will be Commercial Arts. This exciting and innovative program will teach students about commercial graphic arts and design. Students will learn about how to design commercial graphics using computers and CAD systems. The instructors for this program are two instructors from the prestigious Center for Creative Studies.
All students will spend half of their day in training and the other half working on their GED. For the next 15 days Blight Busters will be enrolling all youth who want to take control of the future.
