The Motor City Blight Busters was founded in 1988 with the mission to stabilize
and revitalize the neighborhoods of northwest Detroit. Each January for the
last 15 years Blight Busters has sponsored a Martin Luther King day of service,
to commemorate his birthday and his legacy. This year on Monday, January 19th
starting at 9:00am Blight Busters will host 200 volunteers for a day long service
project. This years project will revolve around helping Volunteers of America,
another local charity clean out what will be their new Michigan headquarters.
Volunteers of America has been a Detroit icon for over 100 years providing services
to the disadvantaged. The project which is located at 24701 Swanson, in Southfield
when finished will serve as their base of operations for the entire state. For
