- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
The Motor City Blight Busters was founded in 1988 with the
mission to stabilize and revitalize the neighborhoods of northwest
Detroit. Each January for the last 15 years Blight Busters has sponsored
a Martin Luther King day of service, to commemorate
his birthday and his legacy

"The mission of The Detroit Project is to build community through
increased awareness of, enthusiasm about, and involvement in service,
by uniting the University of Michigan and the greater community around
the common cause of strengthening Detroit."

In
1989, The first "Blight Fight" cleanup is organized, later
becoming
"Clean Sweep" (now known as "Motor City Makeover")
Motor
City Makeover is a bagged litter volunteer campaign, with an increased
emphasis on beautification. Volunteers are needed to clean up and
beautify their
property, as well as remove trash and debris from vacant lots and
play areas.
Volunteers also are needed to adopt vacant lots, parks, play areas
and
entry points into the city to beautify.

- Summer
in the City
It
is the goal of “Summer in the City” to make volunteer
work
and community service readily accessible to all who wish to participate.
We believe that bringing people together for a
common goal strengthens our community physically, psychologically,
and spiritually.

Night
