Artist Village

- ARTIST VILLAGE -
It's urban setting is adorned with larger
than life painted murals strategically placed on
walls and brick buildings. They help to beautify
and to revitalize a once neglected area of Detroit.

We've Got People!
Many are responsible for the security, the positive
energy and the financial upkeep of the buildings that
make up the Artist Village, but it’s not just the
building; it’s the people that make the Artist Village
a magical, artistic and creative place.

The Artist Village Was Established In 2001

The idea was to provide a space for artists to nurture and develop their creative spirit.
The emphasis would be on education while also providing a community gathering place
where residents of the area could
come together to enjoy arts, music and entertainment.
The history of John George’s Motor City Blight Busters was built on demolition and restructuring
of actual buildings to help rejuvenated blighted communities. Now with the establishment of the
Artist Village, the Blight Busters mission would have the opportunity to elevate
community revitalization to another level.

Chazz Miller, Fine Artist and Muralist Envisioned Having His Own Artist Studio
where he could work, teach and also reside. He envisioned providing a true artist foundation
where young community artists could be nurtured and instructed in the areas of art
creation and appreciation, music, poetry and education.

One Day, John George Secured The Ideal Building
to execute “Operation Artist Village” and he presented Chazz with the key to the building.
Their new building had quite a bit of square footage but only a small portion of it was
actually habitable. That portion is where Chazz slept. But before long, the Artist
Village grew and to the present day it continues to expand exponentially.
