- MOTOR CITY JAVA HOUSE -

Motor City Java House Is Where The Community Gathers
to meet friends, celebrate life, and discuss music, art,
books and poetry. The menu includes: cakes, cookies, pies, smoothies, fresh fruit, fresh deli sandwiches, soups, salads
and of course, a great cup of java!

Alicia Marion, Is The Manager Of The Java House.
She also played an integral role in building the early foundation
of the Blight Busters Organization along with Founder,
John J. George. It is Alicia’s strength of character,
determination, easy-going demeanor and patience that has
made her more than just a coffee house manager.

Motor City Java House
A Place Envisioned By A
Dynamic Woman With Her Community in Mind!

It Is Because Of Her Lifetime dedication for helping the everyday-man that her closest friends
and associates refer to her as the, “Mother Of Multitude” and the “Queen Of The Village”,
for which she is best known! With such accolades it’s no wonder that the organization
that she helped to build has become such a success!

In 1998, Alicia Compiled A List Of Goals That She Hoped To Accomplish
Among the items on that list were to own her own home, to become a independent business
owner and to leave some type of legacy behind for her family and the community to be proud of.
To date she accomplished all of those goals and more!  Ironically, the goals that she completed
ended up being the very things she was called to teach and share with her community.

As A Young Girl Alicia Says, “I Always Had Dreams Of Being A Model"
a spokes-person or some type of public figure. After I met John George,
and became a part of the Blight Busters, I turned out to be all of those things
in my daily work representing the organization. It happened gradually. We lived our lives
every day just ‘being about’ what we were doing and the dreams manifest and became reality!”

At 23 Years Of Age With A 2-Year Old Son, Alicia Relocated To The West Side Of Detroit
Times were tough, but her resilient nature held it all together. It was when her home was broken
into just two days before Valentines Day that she realized that she had to make yet another
move to protect herself and her son. And she did!

Working As A Hostess At Night And At The Jewish Community Center During The Day
coincidence continually made her cross paths with John George who also lived and worked in
the area. John eventually took advantage of all those chance meetings and invited Alicia to see
the type of work he was doing. When she witnessed his company’s revitalization efforts around
the urban community in which they both lived she knew she had to be a part of it and
wanted to know how she could help. The rest is history.
So the next time you visit the Java House know that you are in a special
community gathering place envisioned and created by one very dynamic woman
with the people of her community in mind.
